Mila Jam and Keo Nozari cast “Summer Sex Magic” spell with scorching hot, 70s-inspired music video
Thru a magical ViewMaster, an unsuspecting Keo Nozari and Mila Jam see themselves transported into a cheeky, fun 1970s fantasy: celebrating disco icons, queer trailblazers and sexual exuberance. The music video for their new song “Summer Sex Magic” casts an inviting spell - delivering loads of 70s tributes, Easter eggs, references and a sexy good time.
After more than a decade of friendship, Nozari and Jam join musical forces on the swinging disco-pop song and video, and together they bring out a playful side only longtime pals can do. Nozari, taking his musical influences from his decade-plus as a resident DJ in Fire Island Pines - the birthplace of the remix and significant player in the 70s disco musical scene - uses pop-disco flair, bold humor and campy fashion to helm both the music and the video. Jam is his perfect accomplice in the fun, adding her lush, R&B pop vocals to the track and her years as a showstopper performer giving extra sparkle to the video.
Highly entertaining, the video also offers a mini-education peep show of the time period. In addition to celebrating disco icons (Bee Gees, Sister Sledge, ABBA, Donna Summer), the duo pays loving tribute to queer icons of the era (Freddy Mercury, The Village People, Elton John, David Bowie and Sylvester). “The 70s were a such transformative time for queer artists! After the Stonewall riots in summer 1969, some brave artists finally felt liberated to be themselves in the 70s, including some we’d call today ‘gender nonconforming’ like the amazing, groundbreaking Sylvester,” Nozari explains. “Mila & I thought it was important to pay tribute to some of these giants who paved the way, and made it possible for a trans woman and a gay man to express ourselves so openly in music today.”
Putting the sex in the magic, the duo also take tongue-in-cheek cues from 70s erotica including infamous gay men’s magazine “Mandate” and a women’s counterpart “Viva” (renamed here, of course, “Mila”). Seventies sex icons Farrah Fawcett and Burt Reynolds are given their just dos, as are loads of 70s touchstones including classic pop tv outlet “American Bandstand” and “The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour” and NYC’s infamous burlesque club “The Gaiety,” and leather bar “The Anvil”. There’s even a good misting of hair spray “Aqua Net” renamed here “Aqua Sex.”
“What gets me off as an artist is doing it all — writing, producing & mixing the music; then conceptualizing, directing and editing the video. It’s the full package, the full artistic vision and expression. And Mila was the perfect partner in all this!” says Nozari. Jam adds: “He’s a renaissance man. I’m a renaissance woman. And I love to work with renaissance people. We both have such a love for music. It’s taken a long time for us to actually collaborate on a project, and I’m just so happy we could finally make some summer sex magic together!”
